Weekend Tunes: Portishead

Weekend Tunes: Portishead

I love, love, love Portishead. When I was in primary school, I was out with my Mum and first heard them when we were in a cafe on High St (yes, I have always been this cool) called Lemon Moose. I asked the cafe lady* who it was and she wrote it down for me. We made a pit stop to Marbecks on the way home and snapped up a copy. That was way back in 1994. In April of 1998 I went to my very first concert; it was Portishead at the North Shore Events centre and I had saved up for my ticket, $54 when you earn $5 an hour before tax is a lot to save up for. My best friend and I were in the front, Beth Gibbons was smoking on stage and then stage dived into the crowd. This is by far one of my all time favourite songs ever written.

*she was probably only about 16 but to my 10 year old self, she was a lady
